Bobby Platt is a mentally slow young man who escapes the abuser, the hostile stepfather who has killed his pet one by one. To save himself, Bobby escapes and meets a strange old man who hikes motorways to bury the Roadkill animals. Bobby becomes an old man’s apprenticeship student and learns to see the world of nature in a strange idyllic way. But soon his stepfather’s shadow sticks to him and Bobby’s world explodes into a grotesque nightmare.
