Dreambert and Bedsmith, two beings of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they came to be. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar city, feeling lost and confused. Just as the panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He thinks they passed out while watching TV the night before, but before he can explain further, things get even stranger. A creature named Starlow, of the Star Sprite species, arrives and insists that she is their friend. She says that they had plans to meet, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around the city, as if they do not recognize their surroundings or Starlow. Despite the confusion, Starlow continues to communicate with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As she shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to calm them down. Dreambert and Bedsmith, however, remain disoriented and unable to understand their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day goes on, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned, initially thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, she begins to worry that there is something seriously wrong with their memories. Toward the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty increases and she wonders if there is something else behind their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith return to the house where they woke up, and Wonky, who continues to claim to be their father, provides them with an unfamiliar bed. Too tired and confused to protest, they go to bed for the night. When they fall asleep, their minds are filled with questions about who they are, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories looms unanswered as they drift into a restless sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
